Join Donnal Walter at the Arkansas House of Prayer for an INTERFAITH response to the call of Pope Francis for a global prayer vigil for peace on September 7. We will pray and meditate together in silence from Noon until you wish to leave. You can find more information here:

September 11, 2013
The Interfaith Center and the Arkansas House of Prayer invite you to “Compassion in Action,” an interfaith prayer service on September 11, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Arkansas House of Prayer, 20900 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, AR 72223. The service will bring together the Multi Faith Youth Group, local interfaith leaders, and representatives from each of the major world religions in a commitment to universal peace.  In addition, it will feature a special performance of “Say Love” and other music by Cody Belew, a favorite of NBC’s The Voice Season 3; music by singer/songwriter John Willis and members of Little Rock’s vibrant music community; and a musical ceremony of chant from the world’s religions.  A reception in the gardens will follow. In case of rain, we will meet in the St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church Welcome Center.

How would you like to participate in one of the largest globally-synchronized meditation and prayer events in history?

On the International Day of Peace, September 21, 2013, at 7:00 PM local time (Midnight GMT) BeThePeace Little Rock will join people from every culture, every spiritual tradition, and every political perspective in coming together for a global experience of World Peace.

This synchronized meditation will be held in over 400 cities around the globe simultaneously (see UnifyWorld Peace). The Arkansas House of Prayer will also host two other ‘pulses’ of prayer and meditation at7:00 AM Saturday (Noon GMT) and 7:00 PM Friday as part of BeThePeace Global. This event is also the highlight of the Earthdance Global Peace Party. Those of us who are Christians will be joining the World Council of Churches in the International Day of Prayer for Peace.

Throughout the day, many of us will also be celebrating with Playing For Change Day, Peace Day LIVE,Summer of Peace, Peace One Day and dozens of other organizations and groups. Altogether on this day, hundreds of millions of people will be singing, dancing, playing, praying, meditating, and working for World Peace. Your friends and neighbors deserve to know.

Conversations on the World Religions
Second Baptist Church at 8th St. and Cumberland in Downtown Little Rock will be hosting a series entitled “Understanding our Neighbor: A Conversation on the World Religions” at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 12 – July 17 (schedule below). Dessert will follow each presentation. All are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, May 7
Interfaith Leaders Mini Retreat and Luncheon
The Interfaith Center hosted a retreat to hear about the work that interfaith leaders in the community have done in the last year and about the work each plans to do in the coming year. We brainstormed about unmet interfaith needs and issues in our community and had a facilitated discussion about the possibility of a new project that we might work on together or to come together to support an existing project.
Saturday, May 4
Harmony Health Clinic’s held an interfaith event, “India for Harmony Fundraiser: Dances Around the World” on May 4, 2013 from 6 pm – 9:30 pm at Pulaski Academy.

Monday, January 14
Sophia Said and the Rev. Susan Sims Smith presented a program to the women’s group at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church entitled “Theological Reflection on the Role of Jesus in Islam and Christianity.”

Wednesday, January 16
Common Table, a pilot project of the Interfaith Center, began with a dinner at the home of Dora Jane Flesher, coordinator. Members of all the major world religions came together for this exciting beginning of new service to our community. The Rev. Susan Sims Smith met with the group to cast a vision of our hopes and dreams for the future of this work.

Friday, February 2
The Rev. Danny Schieffler led a Centering Prayer workshop from 9 a.m. until noon for people of faiths.

Friday, February 22 through Thursday, March 7
The Rev. Susan Sims Smith led a group of 13 women from throughout the United States to visit three sites in India. The trip included bathing in the sacred Ganges River during the Kumba Mela Hindu sacred bathing dates, as well as volunteering at Lama Tenzin’s Buddhist orphanage in Dehra Dun, India. Poe Travel coordinated the trip for the Interfaith Center. See the “Trip to Northern India 2013” post for pictures.
